Endocrine glands

Course Description: This course offers an advanced study of the endocrinology of farm animals, focusing on hormone structure, secretion, mechanisms of action, and their physiological functions in growth, reproduction, metabolism, and homeostasis. The course covers endocrine glands, hormonal regulation, feedback mechanisms, and interactions between the endocrine system and other body systems. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to analyze endocrine disorders, interpret hormone assay results, and apply this knowledge to improve animal reproduction, production, and overall health. The practical part of the course focuses on hormone assays, various assay techniques, and result interpretation.
Credits: 2
Objectives of the course :

1. Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the anatomical and functional status of various endocrine glands in farm animals.
2. Developing the ability to interpret how endocrine glands regulate growth, reproduction, milk production, metabolism, and homeostasis.
3. Enhancing practical skills in hormone assessment, identification of endocrine disorders, and interpretation of their data.
4. Enable students to identify, manage, and prevent endocrine disorders in farm animals.
5. Encourage the effective application of endocrinology knowledge to improve animal health, productivity, reproduction, and welfare.

Course outputs :

The student recognizes the endocrine glands in farm animals.
The student describes the different functions of hormones and their mechanisms of action.
3. The student uses laboratory techniques related to hormonal balance
The student demonstrates ethical responsibility in applying endocrinology, ensuring animal welfare and bioethical compliance.
