Histology

Course Description: Histology equips students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills necessary to microscopically identify different cellular components and various tissue types, considering their functional relationships. The course also provides students with the necessary knowledge for studying foundational medical courses and other relevant applied sciences. This science focuses on applying acquired knowledge and skills to develop problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Credits: 2
Objectives of the course :

1. Identify different tools and techniques for histological examination, including the basic principles of using light and electron microscopes.
2. Recognize the structural composition of various cellular components, tissues, and organs within the human body, and link structure to function.
3. Correlating histopathological changes and morphological characteristics of cells/tissues/organs with clinical applications and pathology.
4. Helping students acquire the necessary skills for future professional competence, such as leadership, teamwork, and continuous self-learning.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding
- Identify the basic principles of preparing and identifying tissue samples using light and electron microscopy, with reference to different types of stains.
Description of the histological characteristics of normal body cells, the basic tissue types, blood components, the cardiovascular system, and the lymphatic system.
• Skills:
– Identify the types of tissues in samples examined using light and electron microscopes.
Connecting histological structure with the function of cells, tissues, and organs, referencing molecular and cellular mechanisms, and interpreting the relevant clinical disorder.
Values, independence, and responsibility
Demonstrate leadership skills, teamwork skills, and a continuous desire for self-learning, all of which are essential for professional competence.
