Contemporary Issues in Accounting

Course Description: This course engages students in the latest developments, emerging challenges, and innovative research that are shaping accounting globally. Drawing on a base of advanced developments and ongoing research, it focuses on the continued evolution of accounting standards, the impact of technological innovations on financial reporting, and the pivotal role of scholarly research in driving practices into the future. Through research, students learn how to critically evaluate academic and professional sources, design and implement relevant research, and interpret the results to propose evidence-based solutions, ensuring they gain practical skills applicable to their future careers. Collaboration is a key component of the course. Students participate in group projects to foster teamwork and a collective approach to problem solving, creating a supportive learning environment that allows students to learn from each other and grow together. In addition, the course highlights social responsibility by exploring ethics, sustainability reporting, and stakeholder accountability. The course equips learners with the analytical tools and collaborative mindset needed to keep up with the changing demands of the profession and contribute responsibly to the wider community.
