Course Description: As our knowledge of human diseases increases, it has become clear that inflammation plays a significant role in many pathological conditions. Diseases in which inflammation plays a major role are not limited to traditional inflammatory diseases such as asthma, arthritis, allergies, and autoimmune diseases, but also include atherosclerosis, ischemia-reperfusion injury, sepsis, multiple organ failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Inflammation is also an important component of metabolic diseases, many types of cancer, Alzheimer's disease, cataracts, and organ transplant rejection. In this course, the student will expand their knowledge of the aforementioned immunological diseases and apply this knowledge to select appropriate medications for treating and controlling inflammatory conditions.
