Drug screening and research methods

Course description: This course focuses on providing students with the necessary knowledge about preclinical drug evaluation and modern experimental techniques in drug discovery and development. The course content helps students use various animal models in the drug discovery process and identify the different modern screening methods used in the drug development process.

Credit hours: 3

Objectives of the course :

• Use of common laboratory animals, breeding methods, and anesthesia and euthanasia techniques.
Different methods of administering medications to laboratory animals.
• Designing experimental methods in the development of new drugs.
Experimental methods for examining different drug classes.
Biochemical techniques, alternatives to animal use, and virtual or simulated experiments.

Explain the different methods of biological analysis.
Explain the rationale for using animal models in drug discovery, and identify alternatives to animal models.
Choose the appropriate method for examining the drugs used to treat a certain disease.
