Integrated drug therapy: musculoskeletal

Course Description: This course aims to integrate the pathophysiological derangements of musculoskeletal system-related diseases with concepts of drug action and therapy. Drug therapy will be reviewed with a focus on pathophysiology, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, and medicinal chemistry. Emphasis will also be placed on drug selection, dosage regimen design, and monitoring of therapeutic drug concentrations to assess the achievement of therapeutic efficacy and avoidance of adverse effects.

Objectives of the course :

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Describe the pathophysiological processes of musculoskeletal disorders.

2. Pharmacology of drugs used in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

3. Clarifying the relationships between the structure and activity of drugs used in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

4. Describe the pharmaceutical dosage forms used in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

5. Providing the necessary therapeutic knowledge for managing patients with musculoskeletal disorders.

6. Describe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.

7. Discuss the logical foundations, reasonable and practical solutions for drug-related problems.

8. Describe the desired outcomes of drug therapy.

9. Develop a plan to monitor drug efficacy, side effects, treatment adherence, and drug interactions for patient treatment.
