Integrated drug therapy: Gastrointestinal/Nutrition

Course Description: This course integrates the pathophysiological problems of gastrointestinal diseases and nutrition-related problems with concepts of pharmacodynamic effects and pharmacotherapy. It presents the latest drug therapies with a focus on pathophysiology, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, and medicinal chemistry. Emphasis will also be placed on drug selection, dosage regimen design, and monitoring of drug concentration in blood to assess achievement of therapeutic efficacy and avoidance of side effects.

Objectives of the course :

The course aims to provide students with the following:

 

• Explanation of medications used in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
• Clarification of the structural characteristics and activity relationships of drugs used to treat gastrointestinal diseases.
• Description of the pharmacokinetics of drugs used to treat gastrointestinal diseases.
• Describe evidence-based treatment guidelines for gastrointestinal diseases.
• Definition of enteral and parenteral nutrition principles for adults and children.
• Description of the nutritional care process for patients.
• Calculation of enteral and parenteral feeding doses.
