Integrated pharmacotherapy: Psychiatry

Course Description: This course aims to study the causes of mental illnesses and link them with the concepts of pharmacotherapy, including mechanisms of action in the body, chemical structure, and pharmaceutical formulation. The course will also focus on selecting a treatment plan for patients with mental illnesses, which includes choosing the appropriate medication, designing dosage regimens, addressing drug-disease and drug-drug interactions, and monitoring drug concentrations to ensure therapeutic efficacy and avoid side effects.

Objectives of the course :

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Description of the pathophysiological processes of psychiatric disorders.
2. Explanation of the action of medications used to treat mental illnesses.
Clarifying the relationships between the structure and activity of drugs used to treat psychiatric disorders.
4. Describe the treatment plan, including appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for individuals with mental illnesses.
5. Discuss the logical foundations, reasonable solutions, and practical approaches to problems related to the treatment plan.
6. Describe the desired outcomes of pharmacotherapy.
7. Develop a plan to monitor drug efficacy, side effects, treatment adherence, and drug interactions.
