Molecular Pharmacology

Course Description: This course covers the molecular aspects of biological membranes, mechanisms of organic cation and anion transport across these membranes, and how these processes are affected by drugs. It also addresses the pharmacological aspects of neurotransmitters and other endogenous substances, their interactions with their specific receptors, and the resulting physiological effects. Furthermore, it discusses the dynamic nature of receptors in states of health and disease, and how drugs can cause up-regulation or down-regulation of target receptors.

Objectives of the course :

The aim of this course is to introduce students to:
Provide students with knowledge related to the molecular basis of drug action mechanisms.
• The course covers information on how drugs interact with large molecular components of body cells, the changes that occur in cells as a result of these interactions, in addition to the formation of secondary messengers.
The course also covers drugs used clinically to affect these processes in various pathological conditions.
