Course Description: This course covers the fundamental knowledge necessary to understand how to integrate medicinal herbs into health and therapeutic practices. It focuses on their medicinal properties and scientific efficacy, as well as aspects related to their safety and quality. The course also examines the principles of quality control for herbal preparations, identifying potential side effects and drug interactions associated with their use, thereby ensuring the safe and rational use of these products in healthcare.

Objectives of the course :

• Provide students with the necessary scientific knowledge to understand the properties of herbal products and treatments extracted from various plant and natural sources, and to evaluate their importance in healthcare and therapy.
• To provide students with an understanding of the foundations of therapeutic practices based on the use of herbal medicines.
• Introduce students to food-drug interactions and their impact on the bioavailability and therapeutic effects of pharmaceutical and herbal preparations.

Course outputs :

• Describe the concepts of medicinal plant therapy, identify different chemical groups of active phytochemicals, and explain the quality control methods and approaches applied to herbal preparations.
• Identification of herbal and medicinal plants used in the prevention and treatment of various diseases, along with their therapeutic uses.
