Integrated drug therapy: Kidney/Urology

Course Description: The objective of this course is to integrate the pathophysiology of diseases associated with the urinary system and the male reproductive system with concepts of pharmacologic action and therapeutics. Drug therapy will be reviewed with its relevant pathophysiology, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, and medicinal chemistry. Emphasis will also be placed on drug selection, dosage regimen design, and therapeutic drug monitoring to assess the attainment of therapeutic efficacy and avoidance of adverse drug reactions.

Objectives of the course :

Description of the pathophysiological processes of diseases affecting the urinary system and the male reproductive system.
Pharmacology of Drugs Used in the Treatment of Disorders of the Urinary System and the Male Reproductive System.
Explanation of the relationship between structure and biological effect of drugs used in the treatment of genitourinary and male reproductive system disorders.
Description of pharmaceutical dosage forms and formulations for drugs used in the treatment of urinary and male reproductive system disorders.
Provide the necessary therapeutic knowledge for managing the health conditions of patients with genitourinary and male reproductive system disorders.
Describe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
Discussing rational, logical, and practical solutions to drug-related problems.
Describe the desired outcomes of pharmacotherapy.
Present a plan for monitoring the drug's effectiveness, its side effects, patient adherence to the treatment plan, and drug interactions specific to the patient's drug therapy.
