Course Description: This course offers an integrated study of angiosperm taxonomy, with a focus on the relationship between taxonomy and other branches of botany. It covers flower structure and the development of its parts (receptacle, calyx, corolla, androecium, gynoecium), patterns of symmetry and floral arrangement, in addition to the study of pollination and fertilization. The course also covers floral anatomy using diagrams and floral formulas, types of inflorescences and fruits, along with the study of morphological and floral characteristics of monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants. It also focuses on the use of taxonomic keys in distinguishing different plant orders and families, and analyzing the taxonomic relationships between them.

Objectives of the course :

The course aims to enable students to:
Naming the fundamental principles of different classification systems and botanical taxonomy, distinguishing between essential and non-essential parts of a flower.
Reconstructing the floral diagram, longitudinal section, and floral formula in different plant families through floral dissection.
Explanation of the evolution of flower parts (receptacle, calyx, corolla, androecium, gynoecium) through floral diagrams and floral formulas.
Distinguishing between inflorescence types (racemose and cymose) and fruit types.
Explanation of the morphological and floral characteristics of monocotyledonous plants for identification using taxonomic keys.
Comparison of morphological and floral characteristics of dicotyledonous plants according to different orders and families.
Evaluating the morphological and floral traits of flowering plants (monocots and dicots) using taxonomic keys.
Analysis of inflorescence and fruit types, comparing monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants.
