Principles of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Course Description: This course introduces students to the medicinal chemistry of drugs, with a particular focus on pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and physicochemical properties and their relationship to biological activity. The course discusses the influence of chemical structure on drug interactions with various cellular targets and explains in detail the process of drug metabolism and factors affecting it. The course also introduces students to the fundamental principles of drug discovery, development, and design, and covers drug synthesis, identification, and analysis.

Objectives of the course :

Understanding the relationship between the biological activity and the physical and chemical properties of a drug molecule.
• Understanding the process of metabolism and the factors involved in drug metabolism.
The modern drug discovery process and the elements that govern it.
