Histology and cellular science

Course Description: First: General Course Description This course covers the study of Cytology and Histology, focusing on the microscopic structure of different organs and systems in the human body, including: the respiratory system, the digestive system and its associated glands, the endocrine glands, the urinary system, the male and female reproductive systems, as well as the eye, ear, and central nervous system. The course also focuses on understanding cell structure and its adaptation to its functions within different tissues, clarifying the relationship between structure and function. It also includes practical aspects through the design and implementation of practical experiments, analysis of results, and understanding the fundamentals of Histopathology.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

This course aims to enable the student to:

Explanation of the basic concepts of cell biology and histology and their connection to the functional structure of organs.
Describe the microscopic structure of cells and tissues in various biological systems.
The relationship between tissue structure and function in normal conditions.
Applying scientific principles in the laboratory study and analysis of tissue sections.
Analysis of histological changes and their correlation with fundamental concepts in pathology.
Developing analytical thinking skills in interpreting microscopic observations and laboratory results.
Developing scientific communication skills through presenting and discussing results.

Course outputs :

First: Knowledge & Understanding

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

K1: Defines the concepts of cell biology and histology by explaining their fundamentals.

Describes the structure of cells and tissues and their adaptation to their functions in different body systems.

III. Skills – As revised according to NCAAA

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

Applies basic laboratory techniques in preparing and examining tissue sections with precision.

Distinguish between different types of tissues based on their structural characteristics under a microscope.

Interprets microscopic observations and links them to the physiological functions of organs.

Analyzes laboratory results and draws evidence-supported scientific conclusions.

Third: Values, Autonomy & Responsibility

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

Effectively communicates in scientific discussions and exchanges ideas with others in a professional manner.

Works responsibly within a team and contributes to the efficient completion of laboratory tasks.

Additional information:
