An Overview
The Department of Computer Engineering was established in conjunction with the establishment of the College of Engineering and then moved to the College of Computing after its establishment at Qassim University in the academic year 1428/1427 AH to meet the need of the various sectors in the Kingdom from this specialization and to prepare the required competencies and expertise, and the department seeks to qualify the student to be a specialist in the field of computer engineering after graduation. Computer engineering is defined as the branch of knowledge that embodies the science and technology of designing, building, implementing and maintaining software and hardware components for modern computer systems and computer-controlled devices, where software science is integrated with the science of hardware design to run appropriate software. Accordingly, the Computer Engineering Department includes a number of engineering fields, such as microprocessor design engineering, digital communications engineering, wired and wireless networks, network security, cryptographic systems, artificial intelligence and neural networks, digital control systems, parallel programming languages, and a range of scientific fields that form the basis for the computer engineer. The Computer Engineering Department, in cooperation with the university's departments of science, engineering, computer science, and information technology, produces graduates specialized in the field of computer engineering.
