Mission

The Department of Architecture at the College of Architecture and Planning at Qassim University provides advanced and accredited education in architecture programs to prepare qualified competencies that meet the needs of the labor market and provide community and research services that support sustainable development in the Kingdom and contribute to building a knowledge economy.

Overview

The Department of Architecture was established as the first department of the College of Architecture and Planning in 1429 AH with the establishment of the college, and with the start of the study in the college and the department in the first semester of the academic year 1430/1431 AH, 32 students were accepted for this semester in the Department of Architecture, to graduate the first batch of graduates of the department by the end of the academic year 1434/1435 AH, where 27 architects were graduated. The Department of Architecture aims to prepare the student to be a distinguished architect by providing him with skills and comprehensive knowledge of architecture: Ancient, modern and contemporary architecture, with an emphasis on the theories of architecture, understanding the technical methods of construction, and acquiring the necessary skills in urban sciences and technology related to architecture; taking into account the local environment and economic and social factors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During the first three years of the Bachelor of Architecture program plan, a solid base is established, which prepares the student to know the methods and techniques of design and recognize the characteristics of the urban environment, and with that he begins to get acquainted with the basic methods of construction, studies and technical installations, and gradually progresses through these concepts, so that his field of knowledge expands and his thinking becomes more profound, as this effort culminates in the final year with the graduation project; which reflects all the different skills that the student has acquired during his study period in the department and the college.

Objectives :

  • Providing distinguished scientific academic programs in the fields of architecture and its sciences in accordance with the standards of quality, academic accreditation and the needs of the labor market.
    Preparing the student in the basic fields of architecture and its sciences and enabling them to compete in the field of professional practice.
    Preparing the student appropriately for graduate studies and scientific research in the field of architecture and its various sciences.
    Creating the appropriate environment for students to apply their acquired knowledge and skills in recognizing the needs and issues of society and environmental, social, cultural and urban issues related to architecture and urbanism.

Educational goals:

College admission and departmental specialization
A number of seats at the College of Architecture and Planning are determined each semester, and these students are admitted to the Department of Architecture based on several criteria:

1 - Completing the weighted score requirements.

2 - Passing the admission test organized by the college, which measures the integrity of the senses and the basic technical skills required for the student of the Department of Architecture. Students' abilities are tested due to the nature of the architectural study, which requires a certain amount of skill in drawing, in order to be an indicator for students to determine the possibility of joining the College of Architecture and Planning and its Architecture Department. After admission to the college, the student studies for five years in the Department of Architecture.

 

Conditions for transferring to the Department of Architecture and the differentiation mechanism
1- The high school diploma must be in the scientific track.
2- Passing the college entrance test.
3- The student must have studied at least one semester in the transferred college and completed at least 9 credit hours for students transferring to the architecture program, and 12 credit hours for students transferring to the interior design program.
4- The student's cumulative GPA should not be less than 3.75 for students transferring to the architecture program, and 4 for students transferring to the interior design program.
