As part of its contribution to solving many of the obstacles that women face in learning to drive, the university continues to carry out construction work to establish a driving school for women within the university city in Al-Malida, within the set plan and timelines, as the design has been completed, the construction terms and specifications have been released, and the training fields have been designed to mimic the best international practices to qualify trainees to drive.
His Excellency Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of Qassim University, directed the establishment of a university-owned organization to establish, operate and manage a driving school for women, following the signing of an agreement between the university and the Kingdom's Traffic Department to establish the school.
This step comes as part of the university's endeavors to achieve the fourth strategic goal, which is to serve issues related to women and families, as it has positive social and economic consequences, especially since this service will contribute to achieving ease of movement and mobility for women to reach their work or place of education.
The general supervisor of the construction of the driving school, Dr. Majid Al-Enezi, confirmed: The agreement with the Traffic Department stipulated that the school will be established and operational within 6 months, as work is underway to construct the building with a total area of 1,800 meters, and the designs of the training fields, which are estimated to be about 30,000 square meters and contain 18 traffic skills, have been completed.
Al-Enezi noted that the school will be equipped with the best driving simulators (simulators) The simulation lessons will be provided using a device that simulates driving a real car, and consists of all the parts that make up the interior of the car, such as the driving seat, steering wheel, control panel, ignition key, and seat belt. The passenger is surrounded by screens that display an interactive virtual reality that simulates a large number of scenarios that the driver may encounter in different weather and geographical conditions, and the device gives its instructions to the passenger interactively and shows the leader the mistakes he made.
Al-Enezi added that the location of the school was chosen to be within the university campus in order to take advantage of the internal roads of the campus and use them in the future to train trainees in a safe environment. The university also intends to attract certified driving instructors from official authorities to practice the activity in order to provide the best services to trainees, as the university emphasizes its keenness to apply the best international specifications for driving schools and provide distinctive and accredited training programs.
