Spotlight on Al Jazeera's Chair for Journalism Studies at Qassim University
The Al-Jazeera Chair is the first chair signed by Qassim University in its previous phase, which lasted four years, to be the first of the research chairs approved by the Qassim University Council following the launch of the Al-Jazeera Initiative, which was well received and supported by the university's leaders and affiliates.
According to Dr. Fahd bin Sulaiman Al-Nafi, Secretary of the Al-Jazeera Chair for Journalism Studies at Al-Qassim University, the chair offered a number of courses, including the (Fundamentals of Journalism) course taught by Mr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Muhaimid, in which the number of participants reached more than 80 trainees, some of whom came from outside the Qassim region to attend the course, which lasted for three days. In the course (Means of Influencing the Reader in the Newspaper Article) by Dr. Khalid Al-Sharida, the number of participants reached more than 40 trainees, despite the lack of intensive advertising as in the previous course. We were surprised by the number of participants in Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Faraj's course, which was dedicated to women and was entitled "The Art of Journalistic Editing", as the number of participants reached about 70 trainees, some of whom were deans of colleges or faculty members from within the university. This attendance encouraged the supervisory body of the chair to intensify the short-term courses.

The program, which was held from Saturday 4-4-1431H to Monday 12-5-1431H, sought to teach the basic skills needed to work as a journalist, highlighting some theoretical aspects, while focusing more on the applied aspect and practical practice. The program was presented by a group of academics specialized in media and journalism, and a group of practicing journalists such as His Excellency Prof. Dr. Ali Shuwail Al-Qarni, Professor of Journalism at King Saud University, Editor-in-Chief of the University Message and Supervisor of the Al-Jazeera Chair at the University, and His Excellency Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Muhammad Al-Rifai, Professor of Journalism at Imam University, Editor-in-Chief of the University Mirror and Supervisor of the Al-Jazeera Chair at the University.

In addition, a lecture entitled "Electronic Journalism: The Pros and Cons" was delivered, as well as a lecture entitled "Sports Journalism and the Problem of Tendencies", and a three-day course entitled "Diction and Presentation Skills" for women.
I also presented a field study entitled (The Impact of Journalism on Awareness - Al-Jazeera Newspaper as a Model), through which the opinions of students at Al-Qassim University were surveyed. Through this study, we realized that Al-Jazeera newspaper is the first to convey important news to them with a percentage that exceeds 82% and provided Al-Jazeera newspaper with this study.
The chair also provided Al-Jazeera newspaper with some recorded contributions. Some books related to the previous period have been prepared and will be published in this new period, including a book by His Excellency Dr. Sami Zahran entitled (New Media), as well as a book (The Art of Cartooning) and a book that monitors the past period of the Al-Jazeera Chair at the university. Among the activities of the chair was a lecture entitled (Hisbah and its role in the media (women) by Dr. Nawal Abul Fotouh, as well as a lecture entitled (Satellites and their role in educating young people) by His Excellency Mr. Qasim Al-Zoubi. We were keen to fulfill the wishes of all the beneficiaries of the chair's activities by diversifying them. There are a number of events that were included in our programs, but they did not take place for reasons related to the guest, and we hope that they will take place in the new phase of the contract, God willing.
We were keen to ensure that the chair achieves two goals at the same time: The first is to serve the media and journalism field in particular. The second is to raise the quality and efficiency of journalistic work in the Qassim region by preparing training courses, workshops and intensive diploma programs in the profession of journalism for those wishing to practice journalism or amateurs of both sexes.
By the grace of God, the supervisory body of the chair was able to achieve these two goals by organizing many of these programs, workshops and intensive courses. It is gratifying to note that these programs were not limited to university employees or students, but also benefited a number of citizens from the Qassim region and beyond.
In conclusion, Dr. Al-Tami extended his thanks and appreciation to Al-Jazeera newspaper for its pioneering efforts in cooperating with Saudi universities and Qassim University in particular in offering this distinguished chair and in its keenness to serve the community through universities, which are very happy to embrace such distinguished scientific chairs.
Dr. Fahd bin Sulaiman Al-Nafei, Secretary of the Supervisory Board of the Al-Jazeera Chair at Qassim University, added: In the Qassim region, there is no college specialized in media or even at least a department that studies media specialization, so the Al-Jazeera chair at Qassim University opened wide horizons for everyone looking for knowledge in media, especially in journalism in all its aspects. This chair has done a lot in a short period of time as a result of the demand for the courses offered to those interested in the media field.
He pointed out that it is remarkable that Al-Jazeera's chair at Al-Qassim University revealed a fact that was absent from everyone and was not taken into account, namely the great interest of the female element in the Qassim region, whether inside or outside the university, in the media field.
In conclusion, Dr. Al-Nafei pointed out that the Supervisory Board of the Al-Jazeera Chair has integrated programs and various plans that will cover the period of the chair's presence at the university to provide everything that serves the university staff in particular and the Qassim community and all those interested in media work in general.
