Overview
The Department of Internal and Surgical Nursing is one of the main academic pillars of the College of Nursing, playing a pivotal role in establishing nursing knowledge and developing clinical skills in undergraduate students. The department aims to prepare nurses who are enthusiastic and motivated to continuously learn and are able to provide comprehensive nursing care in various adult nursing specialties including critical care. It is also committed to providing a learning environment rich in advanced scientific and clinical experiences, meeting the requirements of the labor market, and supporting scientific research in accordance with the approved research plan.
Objectives :
1- Providing specialized care for patients with disorders of the cardiovascular, endocrine, nervous, and urinary systems.
2- Providing nursing care for burns, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, and oncology patients.
3- Conducting a comprehensive assessment of the physical, psychological and social condition of surgical patients.
4- Developing skills in dealing with emergencies and disasters, caring for the elderly, and patients in critical care units.
5- Enhance the ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate nursing care using the nursing process.
6- Linking the concepts of health promotion and family-centered care, especially for genetic and chronic conditions.
7- Utilizing the latest therapeutic techniques in the care of critically ill patients.
8- Establishing evidence-based nursing practices and setting research priorities in internal and surgical nursing.
9- Developing a professional understanding of contemporary issues and trends in this specialization.
Educational goals:
1- Enhance students' ability to analyze biomarkers and relate them to physiological changes to support early intervention.
2- Teaching pain management and preventing post-operative complications such as clots, infection, and respiratory failure.
3- Training to make accurate clinical decisions in critical cases and master the use of advanced devices.
4- Stimulate the initiative to improve the quality of care through research and applied solutions to clinical nursing issues.
The Department of Internal and Surgical Nursing teaches core courses to undergraduate students, including nursing concepts, nursing assessment, adult internal and surgical nursing, as well as critical care nursing. The department also oversees the simulation skills lab and clinical training in teaching hospitals, with an emphasis on integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience through evidence-based practices.
