The conference "Fashion Design and Future Expectations: Challenges, Visions, Creativity, Investment", organized by the University, represented by the College of Designs, concluded its work today, Thursday, 11/4/1442 A.H. The two-day conference witnessed 6 scientific sessions and two workshops, with the participation of a number of researchers, experts and specialists in the field of fashion design and related fields from several countries, including Portugal, Romania, Egypt, Iraq, in addition to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during which a number of modern scientific research and papers were discussed that open new horizons for those interested and working in the field of fashion design.
Three scientific sessions were held during the first day of the conference. The first session was chaired by Dr. Majida Abdullah Al-Ayed, Dean of the College of Science and Arts in Al-Nabhaniya, Qassim University, under the title "Entrepreneurship and sustainable development in the field of fashion." Dr. Isabel Maria Cantessa and Dr. Lavinia Pan, who spoke about the latest developments in the world of fashion design and its feasibility for entrepreneurs and those wishing to invest in the field of fashion and the future of this promising field given the continuous development and increasing demand for new and innovative designs by consumers, took part in the first session.
Then, the second session was held under the title "Fashion Design and Community Service", chaired by Dr. Khadija Rosy Qari Qashqari, Professor of Textiles and its Applications at the Faculty of Designs and Arts at Jeddah University, in which Dr. Sara Gharmallah Al-Zahrani participated with a research paper on "The awareness of virtual community leaders about online fashion shopping in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", while Dr. Khaira Awad Al-Zahrani participated with a study entitled "Studying the embroidery technique of the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba "Serma" and benefiting from it in implementing tourist souvenirs". Dr. Huda Abdulaziz Al-Muqrin, Ms. Hind Mohammed Al-Solan, and Ms. Shihanah Mohammed Al-Dosari shared a research entitled "Designing an electronic platform to support emerging fashion designers", and Dr. Amal Abdulrahman Al-Nuwaisir presented a research on "Female graduates' trend towards microenterprises in the field of clothing and its relationship with some socioeconomic variables of the family." At the end of the session, questions were answered by the attendees.
The first day's sessions concluded with the third session, chaired by Dr. Hanan Abdul Halim Bukhari, Professor at the College of Design and Arts, Jeddah University, a consultant in managing, attracting and nurturing talented people. The session was entitled "Apparel Design and Production Technology," in which Professor Khulood Hassan Ali, Dr. Huda Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al-Hadi and Dr. Sherif Hassan Abdul Salam participated with a research paper on "The Interactive Role of Smart Textiles and its Main Applications," while Ms. Abrar Ibrahim Ahmed Nuaimi and Dr. Sawsan Abdul Latif Rizk Nada, through a study entitled "Manufacturing Technology for Multifunctional Women Apparel for the Lekh
The conference continued on its second day, with three other sessions, starting with the first session chaired by Dr. Asmaa Abdulrahman Al-Nuwaisar, Assistant Professor at the Department of Fashion Design, Faculty of Designs, under the title "Fashion Design and Sustainable Development", in which Dr. Huda Mahmoud Omar Abdo participated with a research paper entitled "Aesthetic and deliberative values of decorative addition in ready-to-wear garments", and Dr. Wafaa Al-Sabbagh presented research entitled "Creating sustainable garment designs for women without waste by blending and crochet". Prof. Amani Sanad Safar Al-Qurashi, Dr. Lamia Ibrahim Ahmed, and Dr. Suad Shaker Ali presented a study on "Using safflower dye to produce environmentally safe natural silk fabrics (an applied study on the skin of laboratory rats)". The last participants in the session were Prof. Taqa Mafraj Al-Juhani and Dr. Hanan Abdul Halim Bukhari, entitled Sustainability and design identity in the Saudi women's cloak.
The second session was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Huda Muhammad Al-Ghufais, Dean of the College of Science and Arts in Al-Asiyah, under the title "Creative Visions of Fashion Arts", in which Dr. Faten Ali Hussein presented her research entitled "Conversation as creative and communicative visions in the fashion designs of designer Feryal Al-Kildar", Prof. Amjad Jamil Abdullah presented her research entitled "Synthesis in African Art with Pop Art Style in Contemporary Fashion Design", and Dr. Rabia Salem Muhammad presented her research paper entitled "Weaving Three-Dimensional Clothing Pieces on the Mannequin Loom". Dr. Iftikar Hamed Ahmed Manshi presented her paper titled "Introducing Peoples' Fashion through a Two-Dimensional Doll", and Prof. Nabila Abdullah Al-Faraj and Dr. Sahar Ali Zaghloul presented "Creating designs for women's fashion inspired by surrealist art using the plastic and aesthetic potential of leftover fabrics", after which the discussion was opened.
The sessions of the second day of the conference concluded with the third and final session titled "Fashion Design and People with Special Needs", chaired by Dr. Mashael Saleh Al-Salamah, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University, in which Prof. Razan Muhammad Bamhayson and Dr. Khadija Rosie Qari Qashqari participated with a research entitled "Proposed designs for fashion for Parkinson's patients", while researchers Dr. Saita Muhammad Ayed Al-Mutairi, Prof. Noura Al-Abdulaziz, Ms. Hanuf Butti, Ms. Wala Al-Mutairi, Prof. Noura Al-Abdulaziz, Prof. Al-Hanouf Al-Batti Dr. Raghad Al-Madani presented a paper titled "Designing fashion with aesthetic and functional specifications adapted to the rapid changes in the bodies of patients with thyroid disorders." For her part, Dr. Naglaa Muhammad Abdul Khaliq Toimah, Dr. Fayrouz Aboul Fotouh Al-Jamal, and Professor Suha Adel Awad Al-Mayah presented a research paper on improving the functional properties of 3D fabrics in sports clothing for the mobility impaired, and the session ended with a discussion for attendees to ask their questions and answer them from the researchers.
In addition to the scientific sessions, the conference was accompanied by two workshops that addressed some of the themes of the conference. The first workshop was entitled "Nanotechnology and Smart Textiles and their Applications", presented by Dr. Iman Abdul Rahman Al Munir Al Asiri, while Dr. Rania Farouk Jamil Khoqair presented the second workshop entitled "Fashion Design and Saudi Heritage", where participants were briefed on the most prominent designs that existed in the past in the Saudi environment and formed part of the heritage of the Arabian Peninsula to introduce them to the most prominent features of the heritage in the field of fashion.
