His Excellency the President of Al-Qassim University, Professor Dr. Muhammad bin Fahd Al-Sharkh, witnessed the launch of the \u00abHacthon of Loss and Food Waste\u00bb today, Thursday, October 22, 2026, which is organized by the university represented by the Institute of Studies and Consulting Services, in cooperation with the General Authority for Food Security, over two days, at the main lobby of the university city.
The launch of the Hackathons was attended by the heads of universities and private colleges in the region, a delegation from the General Authority for Food Security, along with the partners of success from the private sector: the sponsor Masi Bank Al-Bahr, Al-Safola \u2013 Qadar, representatives of the Shour Technology Company, the Rive Foundation, the Rive Academy, the Waqaa Center, and the Mroog Foundation.<\/p>
The President of the University praised the importance of Hackathons in stimulating innovation and investing the capabilities of creators and experts to develop practical and sustainable solutions to reduce food loss and waste, emphasizing the role of universities in employing scientific research, modern technologies, and artificial intelligence to address societal challenges, and strengthening partnerships with relevant entities, which supports the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030 and contributes to achieving food security.<\/p>
The Hackathon is held under the title \u201cToday we create a tomorrow without loss and waste\u201d, after accepting more than 220 innovative ideas, with the aim of involving experts in addressing the issue of food loss and waste through practical solutions that are feasible to implement, and stimulating innovation across the five stages of the food value chain.<\/p>
It also aims to employ technology, data, and artificial intelligence in developing solutions to improve supply chains and measure loss and waste indicators, and strengthen the active partnership between the various sectors involved in food, contributing to achieving the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030, and supporting the national program \u00abTadam\u00bb to reduce food loss and waste.<\/p>
The Hackathons include five tracks of innovation, including technological and digital innovation, innovation in manufacturing and processing, innovation in operational models and supply chains, innovation in business models and financing, and behavioral and awareness innovation.<\/p>
The participating teams compete in six realistic challenges proposed by the partners, along with a free track that allows each team to propose the problem they seek to solve and present an innovative solution to it.<\/p>
