The College of Dentistry at Qassim University concluded its seventh caravan of its flagship program, \"Voluntary Dental Caravans.\" The caravan spent five consecutive days in the village of Al-Thamd, located in the Medina region, which is 650 km away from the Qassim region. This initiative is an extension of the caravans' contributions within the Kingdom.<\/p>
The beneficiaries of the convoy, which was carried out by college students throughout the mid-semester break of the second semester, exceeded 750 patients. The services covered five main specializations including endodontics, periodontics, surgery, fillings, pediatric dentistry, and preventive dentistry, through more than ten specialized clinics supervised by 60 volunteer students representing Qassim University and several students from Saudi universities, in addition to a group of doctors and consultants. The Taibah Charity Doctors Association also participated in this convoy by providing all its equipment and medical vehicles, which included a fully equipped dental clinic, a primary examination clinic, and a vehicle for transporting people with special needs. To ensure the completion of all services, the convoy included the participation of human medicine students from Qassim University to take medical histories and measure blood pressure and sugar to avoid any complications that the patient might experience during treatment.<\/p>
The caravan also dedicated a full section to education and awareness, targeting the village residents by explaining the most prominent unhealthy eating habits harmful to teeth and the correct ways to clean and care for them. In addition, fluoride was applied to 250 children, which helps prevent cavities.<\/p>
In an enriching initiative for the caravan, students from the College of Pharmacy at Qassim University participated with an accompanying awareness booth that included several pieces of information about medications, their harms, and methods of use.<\/p>
It is noted that the caravan was directly supervised by Dr. Mohammed Al-Muhaymid, Dean of the College of Dentistry at Qassim University, headed by Mohammed Saleh Al-Duraibi, a fifth-year student, and directly followed up by Dr. Murad Al-Rasheedi, head of the Voluntary Dental Caravans Program, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Education Department.<\/p>
