The course was attended by (10) speakers from within and outside the university and over (100) male and female students. The course included seven lectures and nine workshops. This course is the first in a series of foundational courses that the college is keen to hold periodically and regularly to ensure the provision of distinguished, evidence-based therapeutic services and the latest advancements in pharmacology.<\/span><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">The course comes as part of the university's keenness to prepare and support creative initiatives and ideas that would raise the scientific and professional level of its members, and the keenness of Professor Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, the University President, to upgrade the level of the university's graduates to contribute to activating the Kingdom's vision 2030.<\/span><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">The course, through lectures and workshops, covered several aspects of interest to intern students. Dr. Abdullah Al-Zahrani, Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the Security Forces Hospital in Riyadh, gave a lecture in which he discussed how to prepare for the fellowship program for pharmacists, admission requirements for the pharmacy residency program, as well as program details and job opportunities available at the end of the program.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sarr\u0101 highlighted the foundations and skills of solid scientific publishing for health practitioners, how to choose peer-reviewed scientific journals, and how to apply to publish scientific research. He also discussed the problems researchers face in publishing and how to avoid them, as well as how to communicate with scientific journals and respond to their inquiries. Additionally, Al-Sarr\u0101 presented another workshop titled \"Statistical Tests in the Health Field: From Theory to Practice,\" in which he discussed how to identify a problem, measure it, and understand its causes by applying scientific theories and the required statistical methods adopted in scientific research.<\/span><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">Dr. Mohammed Kamran presented a lecture titled \"How to Prepare for a Successful Internship Year.\" He discussed how to communicate with supervisors, follow up with patients, and apply what students have learned during their studies. He also covered the essential outcomes needed to achieve top grades, as well as how to keep up with modern programs to attain the highest cumulative GPA throughout their years of study.<\/span><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">Dr. Tareq Al-Hawasi, in collaboration with Dr. Munira Al-Wehaibi from the Clinical Pharmacy Department at King Saud University, conducted a workshop on drug safety, how to reduce drug side effects, and how to practically implement this in relevant centers and hospitals. Dr. Mustafa Saeed from the Pharmacy Practice Department at the university also gave a lecture on how to write comprehensive case reports in a scientific manner, including all the requirements for case studies under consideration. This included how to identify drug-related problems, manage them, and find solutions for existing and anticipated problems based on scientific evidence.<\/span><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">Dr. Hadeel Al-Qufidi, in collaboration with Dr. Tareq Al-Hawasi from the Clinical Pharmacy Department at King Saud University, gave a lecture on how to conduct clinical drug studies. She discussed the types of studies and their importance for patients and medical professionals to achieve the best results from medications. She also covered the types of clinical studies, their challenges, and how to overcome related difficulties. She emphasized the necessity of conducting clinical studies within national hospitals for the benefit of both patients and national institutions.<\/span><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">Dr. Abd Allatif Al-Aqifi gave a lecture on how to get a job by writing a resume. The lecture focused on defining a resume as an enlarged picture of individuals, showcasing their qualifications, experiences, abilities, activities, hobbies, and other information that those reviewing resumes look for. He explained that mastering resume writing is the first step to getting a job. The lecture presented different formats and types of resumes, along with information recommended for recent pharmacy graduates to make their resumes appealing to employers.<\/span><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">In another lecture, \"Al-Aqifi\" discussed how to choose between practicing pharmacy and academia. He focused on the nature of work in each profession, the required skills, and the tasks a graduate needs to perform to determine their professional path, ensuring the graduate is fully aware when choosing a career that suits their aspirations. Al-Aqifi also presented a lecture on effective communication skills for pharmacists, emphasizing the most important communication skills among the medical team to build a work team and implement healthcare quality in hospitals.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">Dr. Bodour bint Abdullah Al-Omari, a specialist in internal medicine and rheumatology at Prince Sultan Medical Military City, presented a workshop on the concept of pharmaceutical care and how to apply it in clinics for blood clotting diseases, diabetes, and drug counseling. She focused on the pharmacist's role in monitoring medications, treating diseases, and evaluating them after treatment, as well as the precautions and information that should be provided to patients when using anticoagulant medications. She also highlighted the pharmacist's role in diabetes clinics and how to calculate insulin doses based on blood sugar levels, and their role in drug counseling clinics and the impact and benefit of these clinics on patients and society.<\/span><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size:large\">Dr. Areij Al-Jasser, Director of Pharmacy Services at King Fahd Specialist Hospital, conducted a workshop titled \"Therapeutic Nutrition\" as part of the program to introduce cases of malnutrition and the resulting deterioration of health. This included methods for assessing the clinical nutrition status of each hospitalized patient, decisions made to compensate for nutritional deficiencies, intravenous nutrition, and how to calculate the body's energy needs.
