His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, today, Monday, launched Tree Week, as part of the second phase of the initiative by His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz under the slogan \"Green Qassim Land.\" This initiative is being implemented by the General Administration of Maintenance and Services at the university, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Agricultural Affairs in the region, with the aim of planting 300 date palms, 1500 shade trees, in addition to 1000 square meters of green spaces and thousands of flowers.<\/span>

\"Al-Dawood\" planted the first seedling, announcing the start of the second phase. He also thanked all participants in and workers of the campaign, expressing his appreciation for the role played by university staff in making the campaign a success, and their keenness to make the university campus an outstanding model for other sectors in the region and across the Kingdom.<\/span><\/p>

Al-Dawood expressed his optimism that this land will be transformed into a green land through the efforts and determination of men, and with the great support that the university receives from the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Crown Prince, and His Highness the Governor of the region and his deputy, due to their continuous follow-up and keenness on transforming the Qassim region into green lands, pointing to the great benefit that will accrue to the region and its people after the completion of this initiative.<\/span><\/p>

For his part, the Director of the University's Services and Maintenance Department, Engineer Saleh Al-Dhalia, affirmed that the launch of Tree Week for the year 1439 AH comes in response to the initiative of His Highness the Governor of the region to spread greenery and plant trees in the university city to make it a green city. The first phase of the campaign began last month of Muharram and lasted for a full month, during which governorates, their affiliated centers, associations, and the community participated in extensive planting.<\/span><\/p>

Al-Dalei expressed thanks and appreciation to the esteemed President of the University, who always emphasizes the importance of spreading the culture of agriculture to combat desertification. He also thanked the Vice Presidents of the University, the faculty members, and the students participating in this campaign, which will be an annual event, God willing.<\/span><\/p>

This week's celebration coincides with Arbor Week, during which celebrations for planting and protecting vegetation take place in most countries around the world. The aim is to increase green spaces, restore natural forests, and plant artificial forests. Additionally, it focuses on giving more attention to planted trees, protecting them, restoring cultivated areas, and safeguarding natural forests from encroachment. This is achieved by raising awareness about afforestation, fostering a spirit of participation, preserving trees, and reducing illegal logging and desertification in the region.<\/span><\/p><\/p>
